  • Artist: Rupert Santos

    R. Rupert Santos is a working artist with a studio in Los Angeles. He recently had a solo show at Klowden Mann Gallery and David Draper Space in Los Angeles. Rupert began as a self taught artist and much of what he has learned has come from his interaction and observation of art. While growing up in Los Angeles, Rupert became fascinated with photographs, paintings, sculpture and especially drawings. He often visited galleries and museums in Los Angeles. He eventually developed his aesthetics and techniques at California State University, Long Beach and at Otis School Of Art and Design. Rupert primarily works with ideas on paper, mostly with photography and ink. He is intrigued by the surface and edges of paper. He has always been fascinated by the creative process; one calligraphic mark leading to the next mark, as well as one drawing developing into the next drawing, into the next work. He enjoys exploring the contradiction between spontaneity and control in his work. Rupert has shown in various museums in the US and galleries throughout Los Angeles. His work is in private collections in the United States and Europe. R. Rupert Santos was born in Manila, Philippines. He works and resides in Los Angeles, California. He received a BFA in Photography in 1996 from California State University in Long Beach and an MFA in New Genres in 2001 from Otis College of Art and Design.
